Polaris PTO News May 9, 2025
Welcome New Families

Welcome to our incoming families from the Polaris PTO! We enjoyed meeting many of you at Tuesday's New Student Welcome event. We'll send more details about all of the fun ways that you can get involved in the coming weeks. In the meantime, please check out our website for open volunteer opportunities and the schedule of fundraising events.

We send out a PTO newsletter every other Friday during the school year, which is the best way to stay up-to-date on school activities. We look forward to meeting the rest of you and celebrating with our entire Polaris community at the summer social on Sunday, June 1st from 4-6pm!

Grateful for our Polaris community,
Leslie James and Desi McAdam, outgoing 24-25 PTO Co-Chairs
Amy Molk, incoming 25-26 PTO Chair

Teacher Appreciation Week
Celebrating Our Teachers

This week, parent volunteers helped celebrate Polaris teachers and staff in fun and memorable ways. Thank you to Allison Pohlmann, PTO Teacher Appreciation lead, for coordinating. Thank you to all the Polaris teachers and staff for the dedication and care you provide to our Polaris Stars!

Last Chance to Contribute

Last chance to show our teachers how much you appreciate them! Saturday is the final day to join the Teacher & Staff Appreciation group gift.

If you haven’t had a chance to say thanks yet, there’s still time. This is a simple and equitable way to show your appreciation through a group gift.

Thank you for supporting our amazing teachers and staff and helping us close out another great year with gratitude!

Keeping Kids Safe Near Our School

On Friday 4/25, the PTO organized a zoom meeting with District 9 Councilmember Darrell Watson, Principal Adrienne Lopez, Crossing Guard Bradley Abeyta, and some of our walking and biking families to discuss traffic safety issues at Park Avenue and Tremont Street.

Councilmember Watson was helpful in brainstorming actionable solutions and will pull together a meeting with the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) and Denver Police Department (DPD) to solidify next steps. Stay tuned for a save-the-date for a community-wide follow-up meeting at Polaris.

In the meantime, please support Bradley as he participates in the Colfax Marathon relay with other DPS crossing guards to raise $20,000 for Gracie's Giving Project, a charity that is working to make Denver a safer and better place for children to live.

🦋 Pollinator Paradise is Planted! 🦋

Big thanks to the students, families, and Polaris staff who volunteered this past Sunday to plant the "Pollinator Paradise" garden, set up the raised veggie beds, and assemble the seating for the outdoor classroom on the library balcony. It was a tremendous amount of work and an incredible transformation. 🌱

The plants will be delicate this season as they establish, so we appreciate everyone's help with keeping the area undisturbed while the plants put down roots. Some handy guidance as we watch this garden grow: in year one, the plants "sleep;" in year two, they "creep;" and in year three, they "leap!" We may see some blooms as early as this summer, but it'll become a real showstopper in the next season or two.

As you've likely noticed, additional work is still underway to set up a green strip with new trees on the playground and ground the bike racks, so please continue to "excuse our appearance" as we put the final touches in place to help Polaris become a more sustainable school. We are grateful for the community's support!
